A smoothie doesn't have to be perfect to be good for you

There's something oddly comforting about throwing a few ingredients into a blender without following a recipe exactly.
Some mornings it's banana and berries. Other days it's whatever fruit needs using up, with a little fresh ginger for a bit of zing. Sometimes I'll add chia seeds, sometimes spinach, and occasionally a spoonful of peanut butter if I fancy something a bit more filling.
For me, that's what healthy eating is all about. Not perfection or following the latest trend. Just choosing simple, nourishing foods that make me feel good.
It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking every smoothie needs to contain a long list of "superfoods" or expensive powders. In reality, a handful of wholesome ingredients is often all you need.
One combination I come back to again and again is this sunshine-coloured smoothie. It's naturally sweet, wonderfully refreshing, and the fresh ginger gives it a lovely little kick without overpowering the other flavours.

Bee's ginger sunshine smoothie
Ingredients
1 frozen banana
1 cup frozen mango
Juice of 1 orange
2 cm fresh ginger, peeled
1 tbsp chia seeds
250 ml oat milk (or another plant-based milk)
A handful of ice cubes (optional)
Method
Simply add everything to a blender and blend until smooth.
If you'd like a thinner smoothie, add a splash more oat milk.
If you enjoy a stronger ginger flavour, grate in a little extra.
Pour into your favourite glass and enjoy!
A few easy variations
One of the reasons I love smoothies is that they're so adaptable. If you're missing an ingredient, don't worry - just use what you have.
Try adding:
a handful of spinach for some extra greens
a squeeze of lime instead of orange for a slightly sharper flavour
a tablespoon of peanut butter for a creamier, more filling smoothie
a sprinkle of ground cinnamon for a hint of warmth
Every smoothie doesn't have to taste exactly the same.
Keep it simple
Healthy habits don't have to be complicated to make a difference.
Sometimes the best choice isn't the "perfect" smoothie you've saved on social media but the one you can make in five minutes with ingredients already sitting in your kitchen.
If it helps you eat a little more fruit, enjoy your breakfast, or take a few quiet moments for yourself before a busy day, I'd say that's a pretty good smoothie.
Bon appetit!
