Dreams - the Royal Road to the Unconscious?

We all have our own dreams and aspirations, big and small. However, here we're talking about the dreams that occur while we sleep.

Many people keep a dream journal and if you're not already one of them, why not try today? Let's write down some dreams! Make sure to have a pen and paper or your very own dream journal at hand.

In a comfortable seated position with a straight back, close your eyes and focus on your breath for a few inhales and exhales. Then see if you can remember any of your dreams from last night. Reach for your pen and paper and write everything you can remember down.

Dream journaling is thought to be a good way to tap into the unconscious.

If it's proving difficult to remember any of your dreams from last night, write down a dream that you remember from before, and that has stuck with you.

You might want to try this for a whole week and see if there are any recurrent dreams you're having, certain themes or messages. Maybe your inner self is trying to tell you something?

Psychoanalyst and neurologist Sigmund Freud spoke about dreams as 'the royal road' to the unconscious and, as a way of tapping into this unconscious material, he developed what is known today as dream analysis or dream interpretation.
